Our e-commerce department raises vital funds through the sale of pre-loved goods. Our team use their skills, knowledge & experience to maximise income on donated goods by spotting rare and valuable items. We’ve sold first edition James Bond books, rare antique violins, and mountains of unique vintage jewellery.
We are looking for volunteers keen to share their specialist knowledge. We receive varied items from specialist books, instruments, coins, stamps, old toys and games, ornaments, vinyl, paintings, to clocks and watches. We receive lots of high end modern and vintage clothing, handbags and accessories.
We are looking for volunteers who enjoy researching items and creating accurate online listings.
When am I needed?
Our office is based above the Acomb furniture shop and is open Monday – Friday 9:00am-4:00pm
Currently we are looking for volunteers on:
- Wednesday AM or PM
- Thursday PM
- Friday AM or PM
This is based on the availability of our small office, but we can be flexible so please still get in touch if these times do not work for you.
Morning shifts tend to run 9:00am – 12:30pm, Afternoon shifts tend to run 1:00pm – 4:00pm although other shifts can be accommodated as long as they are at least 2 hours in length.
Weekly or fortnightly shifts are preferred.
What will I be doing?
- Researching donated items
- Pricing items
- Writing accurate and engaging item descriptions
- Photographing items
What skills and qualities will I need?
- Expertise or interest in one or more item categories
- Some experience selling online, or desire to gain experience
- Able to work independently with guidance and support
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion

Support and Supervision
The St Leonard’s Hospice Retail Team (Support Office) will provide you with full training and liaise closely with you over all aspects of your role.
Volunteers will be supervised by the E-commerce Manager and Staff, supported by the Retail Team. The Volunteer Services Team will help guide you through the application and induction process and be your point of contact for general enquiries about volunteering.
Volunteers are required to complete mandatory training modules which are usually delivered via our online platform. Additional, booster and refresher training may be delivered as needed via e-learning, video links or face to face. You may also be invited to attend role specific in person meetings where appropriate.
