The St Leonard’s Wellbeing Service encompasses a range of services to support patients affected by life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families, friends, and carers, across our region. These services are held at the Hospice, or in suitable venues throughout our community.
Note: Wellbeing Hub Support Volunteers are subject to an Enhanced DBS check and new volunteers will be required to attend an initial training programme which are held 3-4 times a year.
Please note : We have filled the current training programme for April but are collecting applications for the next course later this year
There may be new Hub Drop-ins starting on alternate days and in different locations across our catchment area so if you can let us know what days you are available and a preference for which area you would like to volunteer in that would be helpful.
What Wellbeing Services are on offer & when?
There are a variety of Wellbeing Services, with more groups in development. We currently offer:
- Wellbeing Drop-In These sessions can provide emotional, social, and spiritual support to help patients and their loved ones navigate their experiences and service needs. They also provide an important opportunity for people to have space and time to relax.
- Communitea Centre, Selby, every Tuesday, 1.00-3.00pm (volunteers needed 12.30-3.30)
- Sunflower Centre at the Hospice, every Thursday, 10.00am-12.30pm (volunteers needed 9.30-1.00)
- Companionship for patients staying in the Hospice Companions aim to improve the quality of life for patients and their visitors by offering meaningful activities, companionship, and active listening support.
- Based at the Hospice, volunteers spend time on the ward weekday afternoons from 2pm. The length of time varies due to uptake on the day, but are usually 1 - 1 ½ hours.
- MND Peer Support This is a relaxed and informal space for those living directly and indirectly with Motor Neurone Disease.
- Sunflower Centre at the Hospice, the first and third Wednesday of the month, 1.003.00pm (volunteers needed 12.30-3.30)
- Activity Groups We aim to offer a variety of activities aimed at improving the wellbeing of those accessing our services.
- Arts & Crafts for Wellbeing, Sunflower Centre at the Hospice, the second and fourth Monday of the month 1.003.00pm (volunteers needed 12.30-3.30)
All sessions rely on support from volunteers, but you are welcome to attend on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
