St Leonard’s Hospice provides care and support for local people with life limiting illnesses. As we have recently introduced several new IT systems we are looking for volunteers who would be willing to support staff and other volunteers with learning how to use these systems and helping them with online training.
Full training on all systems will be given.
When am I needed?
Digital Support Volunteers are needed on an ad-hoc basis for a couple of hours usually Monday-Friday between 9am and 5pm. Shifts can be arranged at a time to suit you. Ideally a minimum of 3 months commitment is required.
The role will be based either at the main Hospice site or could involve travelling to our different retail venues depending on preference and need. As we are assisting volunteers within our retail venues an ability to travel from the hospice to shops is desirable but not essential. We do have a travel expenses policy if you are required to travel from the Hospice to one of our shops (Colliergate, Fossgate, Fulford, Layerthorpe or Tang Hall).
What will I be doing?
This is a new role which we hope will develop over time. Initially your role will include:
- Assisting staff and volunteers to learn how to use new systems
- Assisting with staff and volunteer IT training
- Being on hand to answer queries on using the online training system
- Working with staff / volunteers in their departments or around our retail venues
- Delivering online training to individuals or small groups
What skills and qualities will I need?
- Confidence with IT systems / Being computer literate
- Patience
- Enjoy helping others learn new IT skills
- Be friendly and approachable
- Be able to engage people and put them at their ease
- Be able to explain and teach others how to use IT systems
How will I benefit from being a Digital Support Volunteer?
- Be part of a friendly and inclusive team
- Gain experience supporting and teaching others
- Have the feeling that you have made a difference to someone’s day
- Be valued and respected
- Have full training and support
